Referee training

AYSO has the best referee training program in the world! Pick the course below that fits your situation.

How to register: To take classroom courses, it would helpful if you could register ahead of time, but last minute attendees are welcomed. Identify the course you need below, then see this page for registration instructions.

U8 Referee Course

To officiate U6, U7, and U8 games.
  • Sunday, 8/12/12, 1–5 pm. Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201201028.
  • Sunday, 8/19/12, 8 am–noon. Davis AYSO Building. For women and female youths 12-17. Will be taught by an all-female instructional team and is intended to make refereeing accessible to all the women in our families. Roster # 201201029.
  • Wednesday, 8/22/12,  6–10 pm. Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201205111.
  • Sunday, 9/2/12,  1–5 pm. New location: Community Pool Building (enter at north side of Community Pool). Roster #201201030.

Basic Referee Course

To officiate U9 and older games. No prerequisites.
 
The Basic Referee Course is available in two versions:
  • Version 1: the entire course is done in a classroom (9 hours).
    • Thursday, August 2, 2012, 5:30-10 pm and Sunday, August 5, 2012, 12-5 pm (must attend both dates). Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201201033.
    • Saturday, August 25, 2012, 8 am–5:30 pm, in WINTERS. Attendees should email Al Pederson at "linvillpederson AT wavecable.com"
    • Thursday, September 6, 2012, 5:30-10 pm and Sunday, September 9, 2012, 12-5 pm (must attend both dates). Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201201034.
  • Version 2: the course is split into two parts. The first part is done online (1 to 2 hours). The second part is in the classroom to review the online portion, answer your questions, take the exam, and receive your uniform and equipment (4 hours).
PART 1—Online
  • To take the online course, you must have an AYSO ID number. If you don't have one, you must submit a Volunteer Application Form (instructions here. You will be given an AYSO ID number that is needed to take the online course.)
  • To take the course, see the instructions here. Course name: "Course R002 - Basic Referee Online Training." 
PART 2—Classroom
After completing the online portion of the course, you must attend the classroom portion to complete all the requirements.

  • Monday, January 7, 2013, 6–10 pm. Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201206120.
  • Thursday, January 10, 2013, 6–10 pm. Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201206121.

Upgrade from U8 to Basic Referee

If you have already taken the U8 Referee course and want to officiate U9 or older games, take the "U8-to-Basic Referee Upgrade Course."
  • None scheduled at this time
Alternately, you can take the Basic Referee Course (see above).

Intermediate Referee Course

Referees who have taken the Basic Referee Course and have at least a season of game experience officiating U9/10 games are strongly urged to take the Intermediate Referee Course.

An Intermediate Referee course will be offered in Davis in January 2013 as follows (must attend all three dates):
  • Tuesday, January  15, 2013, 6-10 pm; Thursday, January 17, 2013, 6-10 pm; and Sunday, January 23, 2013, 1-4 pm. Location: Davis AYSO Building. Roster # 201206119.
