Coach training


Women, men, and youth volunteers 12 years old and up are all welcome!

All references below to “coaches” include “assistant coaches” and “Youth Trainers.” 

In a nutshell

  2. Register for the courses in www.eayso.org using these instructions.
  3. If you have not already submitted your Volunteer Application form for the current membership year, see the instructions here.
  4. Check this page later for possible schedule changes!

      Safe Haven Course (one-time requirement)

      U6-U8 Coach Course (for U6, U7, and U8 coaches; no prerequisites)
        • August 16, 2013, Friday, 5:30–8:30 pm, Davis AYSO Building
        • August 23, 2013, Friday, 5:30–8:30 pm, Davis AYSO Building
      NOTE: all classes include both classroom and field time. Please dress accordingly and bring court shoes/cleats (outdoor). We'll go through activities and games for coaching age appropriate games, techniques and tactics. Coaches who are able will be engaged in activities.Bring your favorite size five ball (if you have one, properly inflated please!). Bring sun block and your favorite sports drink and water. We'll have water on hand too. Bring a notebook to write in for both in class and field work. Training is at the Davis AYSO Building located north of the Library (Library address is 315 East 14th Street) and Veteran's Memorial Center. Park in the Davis High School parking lot and head northeast.

      U10-U12 Coach Course (for U9, U10, and U12 coaches)
        • July 13, 2013, Saturday, 8 am–2 pm (lunch included), Davis AYSO Building
        • August 17, 2013, Saturday, 8 am–2 pm (lunch included), Davis AYSO Building
        • August 24, 2013, Saturday, 8 am–2 pm (lunch included), Davis AYSO Building

        Coaches’ Tips Day
        Sunday, September 8, 2013, 9–11 am, Davis AYSO Building
        Get help with training, new technical and tactical training activities, Laws of the Game (LOTG), how to be positive, and/or handling adverse players, parents, people; and how to have fun while your players do too!



        Intermediate Coach Course (for U14 coaches; must be certified as U12 Coach). Must be pre-approved by Board to attend. Contact JP Marié, Area 2D Coach Administrator, at "jpmarie_area2d AT comcast.net" for pre-approval process. 
          • July 20–21, 2013 (Saturday, 8 am–5 pm; and Sunday, 8 am–3 pm; 2-day course). Davis AYSO Building.
          • July 26–28, 2013, 2+ day course. Golden Gate Camp at Menlo College, Atherton CA. Must be approved by Board to take class and by Regional Commissioner (email "commisoner AT davisayso.org") to get reimbursed for travel and class fee expenses.

        Advanced Coach Course (for U16-U19 coaches; must be certified as Intermediate Coach).  Must be pre-approved by Board to attend. Contact JP Marié, Area 2D Coach Administrator, at "jpmarie_area2d AT comcast.net" for pre-approval process.

        National Coach Course (must be certified as Advanced Coach)

        The course is open to all currently registered AYSO Advanced Coaches who want to expand their knowledge and reach the pinnacle of training through the American Youth Soccer Organization. The course is a week long and is offered at Chapman University in Orange, California, each June. Contact JP Marié, Area 2D Coach Administrator, at "jpmarie_area2d AT comcast.net" for pre-approval and details.
