Davis AYSO new Recognition page
- representing those who have made many contributions to our recreational soccer program -

We want to recognize two of our long time community members who passed away recently. These two people contributed much to our local community and through their support for our kid's recreational sports programs.

Randolph R. Buhlman
Aug. 21, 1959 - Aug. 1, 2009

Randy
Randy survived an acute myocardial infarction on Sunday July 26th ,while playing baseball, Due to the quick response of his fellow baseball Timberwolves teammates, Scott Babcock and Barry Markman. These two as well as the rest of the Timberwolves who prayed over Randy and assisted him performed CPR on him at home plate.

Randy’s recovery was quick and he had little damage to his heart. The doctors at UCDMC were just as excited as his family about his outcome. Randy underwent a treadmill stress test just before discharge and was given a thumbs up to go home and hang for a couple weeks before starting cardiac rehab. Randy came home to his family Thursday, July 30th.

Early Saturday August 1st, Randy was taken to Sutter Davis Hopsital under CPR. He was subsequently transferred to UCDMC. He was given every available resource and such compassionate care by all who saw him.

It is thought that the electro conductivity of Randy’s heart malfunctioned. This can be due to getting confused when there is scar tissue in the heart muscle due to a heart attack.

Randy passed away at 6:48 PM Saturday evening with his family and many friends at his bedside.

We would like to think that my late father Paul Ebert , a formed Ohio state Pitcher, now has the best catcher in the world, Randy Buhlman.

Randolph Robert Buhlman, best known as Randy, passed away suddenly on Aug. 1, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. Born Aug. 21, 1959, he was 49 years old.

He was the loving husband of Leslie Ebert Buhlman, and extraordinary father of Holly, 16; Rudy, 14; Claire, 13; and Paul, 10. He was a dedicated coach and supporter of his children's sports teams in baseball, soccer, lacrosse and basketball, as well as being the catcher for his own men's league baseball teams, the Timberwolves, RiverDogs, Phillies and ValleyDogs.

He was an accomplished woodworker and furniture maker. A graduate of Antioch High School, UC Davis and San Francisco State University, he enjoyed a successful career as a civil engineer.

Randy was truly living his dream watching his children grow and spending more time with them than most fathers get to in a lifetime. He often commented that he was doing exactly what he wanted to and was so very lucky. We are so very blessed to be his family, to love him and also to have shared with him his enjoyment of his life. We have all lost a great, loving, patient, steadfast and spiritual man.

Randy is survived by his mentor, William Corey; mother, Sharon Espinoza; brother, Jason Coray; sisters, Denise Ramos and Melissa McGuire; mother-in-law, Joyce Ebert; sisters-in-law, Julie and Diane Ebert, and Sandra Coray; brothers-in-law. Mike Ebert, Steve Ramos, Ian McQuillan and Scoop McGuire; nieces, Katie, Chele and Paige; and nephews, Ryan and Danyon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the children's college funds. Please send contributions directly to Union Bank Payable to Account # 1501224172, 300 E St., Davis, CA 95616 or Buhlman Family Fund, c/o Jamie Crook, 1818 Glenn Place Davis, CA 95616 (payable to Leslie, Holly, Rudy, Claire or Paul Buhlman).

A celebration of life service will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Davis Little League fields at Covell Boulevard and F Street. For more information on how to help the Buhlman family children, please go to http://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/616521.

Drebelbis 'Andy' Alexander

Jan. 17, 1952 - Aug. 26, 2009

Andy
Drebelbis Andrew "Andy " Alexander was a bold presence as a referee for many years for AYSO and more recently DYSL soccer. His experienced view of the game allowed him to be a mentoring to many AYSO referees.

Andy's son, Will, pictured here next to Andy grew up on Davis soccer and he played as Keeper on the DHS varsity team.

Andy was an avid volunteer and made great friendships wherever he went.  His sudden departure makes his absence all the more apparent. Andy's positive personality and great laugh will be missed on the soccer pitch.

Drebelbis Andrew "Andy" Alexander of Davis died suddenly of natural causes on Aug. 18, 2009.

Born in San Francisco on Jan. 17, 1952, to the late Ethel and Drebelbis Alexander, he was 57 years old.

Alexander founded Altair Network and Computer Solutions, a Davis-based business that combined his passions for knowledge, technology and helping people.

Here is a message from Andy's wife...

Andy Alexander died unexpectedly of a coronary thrombosis on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. He had not been suffering, so his death is a great shock to all of us. However, we take comfort in the fact that his love of the game and his active participation in referee activities and games brought him great joy, not only because of the beauty of the sport but also the many opportunities to interact with active, wonderful people.

If anyone would like to take action to commemorate Andy's remarkable life spirit, a most appropriate gesture would be to think of him at that next soccer game or tournament or practice and to do whatever possible to foster and expand the beautiful game that he so loved.

Thank you, Sally Teaford Alexander
