What is the Select Season?
The Select season is a program following the fall season open only to players who participated in the fall season, in U10, U12, U14 U16 and U19 divisions. This is an opportunity for players to improve their skills in a more competitive environment.
Players who are interested need to turn in an application (available from your fall coach or online) by October 9, 2009. The link for the application will be posted on this website. For U10 boys and girls, we will have two “preview workout sessions”, one on October 24th.and the other on November 1st. These are voluntary, but they are going to be one of the best ways for the select coaches to see the U10 players that are trying out to be drafted on a team. Coaches must apply by September 23rd. The teams are drafted in November, with practices starting in December. The season typically runs from mid-December through the end May.
Draft?
For each age group and gender, the coaches get together and draft the players for that age/gender group. Coaches will have scouted the players at a game. Each coach is looking for different things. It is subjective. Each team needs referees to be eligible for tournaments. It is possible that a player will be selected because one of their parents is a referee.
If a coachs child is the best player in that age group, that team would not get a selection in the first round. We slot the two coachs children in relationship to their abilities of the other players in the group. We try to make the draft as fair as possible. Once again it is subjective.
Costs?
Registration costs $135. There are a limited number of scholarships for this.
The tournament fees can cost $40 per tournament per player. There will be lodging costs, meal costs, and transportation costs. This can amount to $750 depending on the number of tournaments the team decides to play in. There is no financial assistance for these costs. For planning purposes, you should figure it may cost around $900.00 per child to play Select.

Criteria
for the Select Season:
We encourage all eligible players (U10 and above)
to apply! ***NEW*** To be eligible to participate
in the Select program a player must be registered, and must have
participated, in the prior fall season no later than the first weekend
in October. The player must participate in at least 70 percent
of the Fall Season, which includes the Jamboree (U10 and U12) or
Regional Tournament (U14, U16 and U19). Rained-out games are included
as games played, and players must meet regional playing time guidelines
(currently of each fall game). Players are expected to attend
regularly scheduled practices. Exceptions to the eligibility requirements
above may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with approval of the
Select Committee. Players must participate in the same division
in Select as they participated in during the prior Fall Season.
The number of teams that will be formed in each division varies
from year to year. In general, you can expect up to 1 Select team
for every 6 fall teams. This will primarily depend on the number
of qualified volunteer coaches. ***NEW*** U10 coaches
must have completed the U12 coaching class in order to be considered
to coach U10. All other coaches, including assistants must have
the appropriate coaching class level to their age group. There will
be no exceptions to this rule. You will travel more than you do
in the fall, as the league could involve teams from Concord, Walnut
Creek, Mount Diablo, Pleasant Hill, Stockton and Rio Vista, as well
as Winters, Rio Linda and Antelope (and possibly others - this may
vary from year to year).
A high level of commitment
is expected from both the coaches, players and the parents. Select
is for motivated and enthusiastic players. For the good of the team,
a player must regularly attend practices and games. Parents
are expected to participate in league organization, particularly
in the running of the Select Tournament and the Davis
World Cup.

season games schedule starts, teams can only have 2 contacts a week
for a maximum of three total hours. A scrimmage counts as a contact.
For your planning purposes:
The select team will likely play half its games
at away locations, so from January through mid-March, expect about
five weekends during which you will play away games, usually in
the Concord area, but sometimes Antelope or Stockton. All select
teams participate in a tournament on a weekend in mid or late March.
The tournament may be in the Bay Area or in Davis. Besides the Select
tournament, select teams traditionally participate in 3-5 of the
following additional tournaments:
