Fall 2022 Season Updates
From the Davis AYSO Board - [email protected]

We hope your summer is off to a great start! Here at Davis AYSO we just closed registration for our Fall 2022 season and good news- your player is on the list! This email contains some next steps and what to expect as we embark on Fall season together. You'll learn about volunteer opportunities, what to do/ not to do, the role of the AYSO parent, and important season dates. Please take 5 minutes to read and digest this information so that we are all ready for the fun that is to come.

Thanks!
Davis AYSO Board

100% Volunteer Run Means You!

Davis AYSO is all volunteer run. That means the person sending this email, the person getting equipment bags ready, the person who will coach your child or referee your game, and the person reading this email are all volunteers. You read that right. We will have a part to play to make this season great for over 1000 Davis kids, the most special of which might be living in your house right now. Your willingness to take on a volunteer role, even if just for an hour, will impact lives outside your home in unforgettable ways. It will also ensure that as a Region we can continue to provide world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

Our largest needs right now are for administrators, coaches, or referees. There are also team specific tasks that your coach will ask to be filled. AYSO has a nationally accredited training program that gives you all the skills you need (even if you've never played or even watched soccer!) to succeed. Our trainers are experienced and passionate about supporting you.

If you enjoy being outside, are observant, and appreciate integrity then perhaps refereeing might be for you. This requires about 8 hours of initial training and then you can self-assign what games work best in your busy schedule. Go here to sign up and get started with your training. Players age 12 and up can become a referee

If you enjoy being outside, tend to think of yourself as a positive person, and want to learn more about your leadership style then coaching is for you! This position requires about 5 hours each week during the season for 10U and above (2013 and older); less for younger divisions. This position comes with the added benefit of getting to set your practice time and location for what works best for you and your family. Go here to sign up and get started with your training.

If you are o
rganized and enjoy working behind scenes to make magic happen then being a Division Coach Administrator (DCA) or on special projects is the role for you. Being a DCA requires about 6 hours of work over the summer and about an hour each week during the season to create balanced teams and keep your division all on the same page! Special projects can range from prepping equipment, unlocking fields, creating social media posts or flyers, organizing picture day, putting on tournaments, or organizing other volunteers. Email us at [email protected] with your interest.

If none of those are your jam or that time commitment sounds daunting at this time in your life consider these tasks when your coach asks for it: Team Manager, Team Photographer, Snack Coordinator, Party Planner, Field Setter-Upper (the most official of job titles), or other tasks your coach needs done.

What to do and what not to do between now and 8/25

What to do

  • Purchase shin guards and big long soccer socks to cover them. Shin guards should go inside socks (touching their skin) when your player goes to put them on
  • Cleats are suggested but not required to purchase. Davis AYSO will give your player a uniform. Davis AYSO also provides equipment to coaches (balls, cones, bibs, etc) so, though it's a good idea to have a soccer ball at home, your player doesn't need one for practice.
  • If you have friends that missed out on registration most of our divisions still have openings you can let them know about! They can go to the Fall season page on our website to see if registration is still open for their players division and join the waitlist if not
  • Let us know here if plans have changed and you can no longer participate in the season

What not to do

  • Get your players ears pierced in August. Ear piercings must be taken out during games (taping is not allowed) and this can cause newly pierced ears to close up. Consider getting ears pierced very soon or waiting until after the season
  • Email us asking when or where your practice time is. Your volunteer coach will let you know! They will reach out to you by August 25th and if they haven't THEN you should email the volunteer who manages the Davis AYSO at [email protected] so we can get everyone connected
  • Email us asking for a friend or coach requests. Coaches can request who they'd like to coach with. Our team formation process aims to create balanced teams across all divisions to ensure the playing circuit is fun and appropriate for all. Team creation takes into account: player skills, interest, and ability, player location, and volunteer availability. Allowing coach or friend requests can throw a wrench in forming balanced teams which degrades the overall experience.

The Role of the AYSO Parent
AYSO parents play a special role in contributing to the needs and development of our young athletes. Through your encouragement and good example, you help assure the excellence of the AYSO programs.

Learn about the Kid Zone and take the Kid Zone pledge here. We look forward to honoring and enjoying the game with you all season long.
