Alliance 23/24

The Alliance (formerly Select) season is created for players and coaches who participated in Fall that want to keep playing soccer! This is an opportunity for players to continue playing and enjoying soccer with others sharing their enthusiasm for the game.  Interested players and coaches must complete this application form.

Interested coaches can apply here as well. The following criteria will be used when considering Alliance Coach applications: Demonstrated Commitment to the AYSO philosophies, Obeys Safe Haven, Level of training, and feedback/evaluations from previous coaching experiences will be considered when available.

Teams begin training in December and from January to May teams will play an 8-10 week league season and participate in 2-4 tournaments.

There will be a 10U/12U select preview day where players are invited to come together to show the Alliance coaches their game. Players are not required to attend Preview Day, but it is recommended. Coaches then select their teams following the end of the Fall season. Players/ families will be contacted beginning November 21 to let them know if they have been selected for a team.

By registering you are letting us know your interest in playing Select soccer, it is of no cost to you until a player is offered a spot on a team. If you make a team it is important you are ready to accept your spot and your account will be invoiced for the select season registration fees (indicated below).

What Is It?

Davis AYSO alliance Soccer provides players currently playing in the Fall season an opportunity to keep playing soccer through the winter and into the spring. Players will join teams that play together from December through May, the extended season giving players the chance to grow and develop as part of a team in a more competitive environment while still following the core AYSO philosophies. A Winter season runs March - May and most teams participate in multiple tournaments in the Spring, culminating in the Davis World Cup over Memorial Day Weekend. Season games take place locally in Davis, as well as in nearby communities as far as Walnut Creek or Concord. Tournament participation is up to the individual team and coaches.

Who can play?

Players currently registered in the Fall AYSO program are eligible to sign up for Alliance soccer. Boys and Girls divisions will be offered at 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U* age groups. If you played Fall soccer, you are eligible to sign up for Alliance soccer. Be sure this commitment is right for your family before committing by scrolling down to our FAQ.

How Does it Work?

Coaches chosen from a pool of applicants will observe interested players during regular Fall season games, as well as special Preview Days for 10U and 12U players. Following the end of the Fall season Alliance coaches will get together and hold a player draft to build balanced teams for the Alliance season. While we want to offer this opportunity to as many players as possible, not all applicants can be placed on a team. Teams begin training as early as December and from January- May teams will play a 8-10 week league season and participate in 2-4 tournaments.

How Do I Sign Up?

Registration for the 2023/2024 Alliance Season opens on September 24, 2023. Scroll down below to see the registration links or use the account you signed up to play Fall soccer, login at davisayso.org and register for Alliance 23/24. There is no cost to sign up; registration fees will be charged if a player is placed on a team. Registration fees for the program are $225. Scholarships are available to help cover the cost of registration. Additional team costs for tournament entry fees and other items will be charged on a team-by-team basis and are usually $300-$500.

Sign up Deadlines

  • Coaches must let us know their interest by applying.  The Alliance Committee will reach out to you with next steps. Not all coaches who apply may get selected.
Players will be contacted in late November to let them know whether they have been placed on a team or if they are on the waiting list (made up of players who are not placed on a team). It is normal not to hear from an Alliance coach until that time. Questions in the meantime can be directed to [email protected]

Alliance Preview Day

For 10U and 12U players who registered to play Alliance Soccer, there will be upcoming Preview Days to give players a chance to show their stuff in front of the coaches. Attendance at Preview Day is optional, but strongly encouraged. Coaches will also be observing players during the regular season, so players can still be chosen for an Alliance  team if they cannot attend Preview Day.

FAQ

FAQ

What is the Select Season?
The Select season is a program for players who participated in the fall season in the U10, U12, U14, U16, and U19 divisions. This is an opportunity for players to continue playing and enjoying soccer with others sharing their enthusiasm for the game.

Select Season games start in early January and run through May. See " Travel and tournaments" below.

What is the preview day or player draft?

For U10 and U12 boys and girls, we will have a "preview workout session" in October (see dates below) at Nugget Fields. These are voluntary, but they are an additional way for the Select Coaches to see the players.

The teams are drafted in November, with practices starting in December. Coaches will have scouted the players at a game (and Preview Day, if applicable). Each coach is looking for different things. Factors that often play a part in selection include skill, sportsmanship, team participation, speed, effort, an understanding of the game, attendance and participation in fall training, positional needs of the team and team chemistry. Each team needs referees to be eligible for tournaments. It is possible that a player will be selected because one of their parents is a referee.

What are the Costs
Davis AYSO Select registration fees ($225 in 2022/23) includes Regional costs and uniform purchase. There are a limited number of scholarships for the Region’s registration cost.

In addition to these Regional registration costs, tournament registration fees (other than the Select Tournament), field rental fees, and other miscellaneous costs may be incurred. These fees may range from approximately $400  to $500  per player. Teams may fundraise to provide assistance to families who may need assistance with these fees.

Participation in tournaments may also require lodging, transportation, and food costs, which are the responsibility of each family.

Criteria for the Select Season

PLAYERS: We encourage all eligible players to apply! Interested players must complete a short online application PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE. To be eligible to participate in the Select program, a player must be registered, and must have participated in the prior Fall Season no later than the last Saturday in September. For U10-U14 the player must participate in at least 70 percent of the Fall Season, which includes the Jamboree (U10) or Regional Tournament (U12, U14, U16, and U19).  For U16-U19 the player must participate in at least 50 percent of the Fall Season. Rained-out games are included as games played, and players must meet regional playing time guidelines (currently three-quarters of each fall game). Exceptions to the eligibility requirements above may be allowed due to hardship on a case-by-case basis with approval of the Select Committee. Players must participate in the same division in Select as they participated in during the prior Fall Season (age and gender). The number of teams that will be formed in each division varies from year to year. In general, you can expect up to one Select team for every six fall teams. This will primarily depend on the number of qualified volunteer coaches.

COACHES: Similar to the players, all interested coaches who have coached in the Fall must fill out an online application PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE detailing their experience and acknowledgement of the commitments if selected. U10 coaches must have completed the U12 coaching class in order to be considered to coach U10 in the Select Season. All other coaches, including assistants, must have completed the appropriate coaching class level to their age group, AYSO Safe Haven training, and the CDC concussion training.   Coaches should have completed the required coach training at the time of applications.

COMMITMENT: A high level of commitment is expected from the coaches, players, and the parents. Select is for motivated and enthusiastic players. While some players are involved in other sports, for the good of the team, most Select coaches require that training sessions and games take AT LEAST equal precedence with other activities. In addition to the player’s commitment, parents are required to participate in running the Select Tournament and the Davis World Cup tournament.
