What is AYSO Alliance?

What Is It?
Alliance Soccer is designed for players who want to continue playing in a competitive environment beyond the regular Fall season. Teams play from December through May, participating in 8-10 league games and 2-4 tournaments.

Who Can Play?
Players in divisions 9U (2016) -16U (2009) who are not currently associated with a competitive soccer club.

How Does Selection to a Team Work?
Coaches will observe players during Fall games and Preview Days before holding a draft to build balanced teams. Not all applicants can be placed on a team, but we strive to offer this opportunity to as many players as possible. If your player was not enrolled in our Fall season it is important the player attend the tryout day to be evaluated. If your player did play in Fall attending Preview Day is still highly encouraged.

What is the Commitment?
Alliance players and families make soccer at least even as priority number 1 with their other extracurricular activities. Weekend travel (including Sunday's) is expected. Teams will practice twice per week at a day/time decided by the coach. Teams are together from December to May-- not all weekends in this time frame will have a game but many will.

How Do I Sign Up?
Registration opens in September. No fee to sign up initially; fees are charged only if placed on a team. Estimated costs include:

What is the cost? $650 - Alliance fees now include 3 tournaments, rented lit fields during the winter months, league and referee cost, and other administrative expenses. Scholarships for these registration fees are available in addition to a 6 month payment plan option. Additional expenses families can expect that are not covered by scholarship are: uniform ($70), travel expenses to games, and hotel stays at up to 2 tournaments. AYSO Is committed to ensuring the registration fee is not a barrier to playing if your child is selected. Families do need to be prepared for travel to away games and paying for tournaments and uniforms.

League Options

Coaches can choose from 1-2 leagues, including at least one outdoor league for 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 games, and participate in at least 2 tournaments in addition to Davis World Cup. Parent input is encouraged at the beginning of the season. Teams will play from January - May.

AYSO Alliance Soccer Experience: Insights from Our 2023/2024 Families:

Highlights of the Alliance Experience:

  1. Exceptional Coaching:

    • Many families praised our dedicated coaches for their knowledge, support, and ability to connect with players. Whether it's fostering a positive team spirit or providing individual attention, our coaches go the extra mile to ensure every player thrives.
  2. Team Bonding and Camaraderie:

    • The Alliance experience is more than just playing soccer; it's about building lifelong friendships and strong team bonds. Families highlighted the importance of away tournaments and extended seasons, which allowed players to deepen relationships both on and off the field.
  3. Player Development:

    • Our extended seasons and consistent practice schedules help players develop their soccer skills and grow in confidence. The opportunity to play with a consistent group of motivated peers over a long season contributes significantly to their growth.

Areas for Improvement:

  1. Balanced Team Competitions:

    • Some families felt that the competition level between Davis teams was not always balanced, leading to uneven matchups. More opportunities for inter-team scrimmages and balanced team formations could enhance the experience for all players.
  2. Season and Game Scheduling:

    • Scheduling was a recurring theme, with some families expressing a desire for more local games, a more spread-out season, and earlier communication regarding game schedules. The challenge of rescheduling due to weather also highlighted the need for better planning and possibly more access to turf fields.
  3. Focus on Fun and Inclusive Play:

    • While skill development is crucial, a few families expressed concern that the competitive environment sometimes overshadowed the fun aspect of the game. Ensuring that all players feel valued and get the opportunity to play various positions is essential for maintaining the AYSO philosophy of positive coaching and balanced teams.

AYSO Alliance is committed to continuously improving the soccer experience for our players and families. We value the feedback provided and strive to make each season better than the last. Join us in making the upcoming season a memorable one for all!
