AYSO Hybrid Referee Training for New Referees

For fall 2021, we will be instituting hybrid referee training classes.
The most important decision to make is what level class you want to take.

U8 Official.

U8 Officials can referee U6 and U8 matches. These matches are official by one referee.

Regional Referee

Regional referees can officiate games in all age groups (from U6 to U19), although we recommend that they start with U10 games and consider further referee classes as you move up the age brackets. U10 and above matches are officiated by a team of 3 match officials - a referee and 2 assistant referees. Both referees and assistant referees take the same training classes.

The classes will follow the following pattern:

Step 1:

Register as an AYSO volunteer: How to register as a volunteer.
Wait 24 hours for  your account to sync over to AYSOU.

Step 2:

Students will take the online referee training at AYSOU.org.
All students must take the following classes:

AYSO Safe Haven
CDC Heads Up concussion training
Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Safe haven an AYSO requirement, the other two are mandated by the State of California.

To take the referee classes, go to aysou and look for the "Online Classes" section.

To become a U8 official, take the "U8 Official Course" course.
To become a regional referee take the "Regional Referee Training" course.

These classes can be found on the “Online courses” section of the AYSOU (https://aysou.org) website. Sudden Cardiac arrest and CDC concussion training are in the Safe Haven section.

Step 3

For the regional referee class, register for an in person “Davis Referee Fieldwork”. This is the field work part of the class. At the end of this class you will pick up your referee equipment. You must complete all the previous steps prior to this step.

To register for this class in AYSOU:

Go to AYSOU
Select "In-Person Courses"
Open "Referee Instructor Led Courses"
Open "Regional Referee Online Companion Course"
Click on "sessions"
In the list, find any of the "Davis Referee Fieldwork" classes and sign up for the date that is most convenient to you and click "Register"

Davis Fieldwork Training: For Regional Referee AND U8 Official, you should ALSO sign up for a fieldwork session using one of the following google forms. You only need to sign up for ONE. In these classes you will learn the hands on aspects of refereeing and pick up the equipment you need to referee games.

You must complete all the other steps before you can pick up your equipment.
