Regional Commissioner Search

After an amazing 3 years at the helm of Davis AYSO that included Davis being selected as the AYSO National Region of the Year, our fearless leader Katie Lyon's term as Regional Commissioner is coming to an end in March 2025.

A search for her replacement is underway and we are accepting applications for the position of Regional Commissioner to oversee all soccer programs in AYSO Region 218 (Davis AYSO).  Interested candidates please email a letter of interest and a resume to Harmony Scopazzi ([email protected]). Your application should include personal, professional, and AYSO experience. You may also email if you have any questions about the position or process.

Davis AYSO is proud to offer a diverse soccer program, which includes Schoolyard for 4 year-olds, large recreational Fall and Spring leagues for players from 5 to 18, an adult program, and competitive Alliance teams. The Regional Commissioner also coordinates heavily with the AYSO United Club program in Davis.  Our Region is led by a Region Board who help administer all our soccer programs. The Regional Commissioner leads the Region and the Regional Board and is an executive member of the Area 2D Board (Area 2D includes Antelope, Arbuckle, Capay, Davis, and WInters). They consider the needs of the community in providing vibrant, growing programs to benefit the children in our very soccer-minded community. The role includes overseeing strategy, finances, volunteer recruitment, scheduling, policies and procedures, growth and, most of all, delivering world-class youth soccer programs that enrich Children's lives.

The Regional Commissioner position requires a time commitment of about 1-10 hours per week, 1-2 hours in the summer, up to 10 hours during the fall season, and 5 hours most other times. During the months of the Fall and Spring recreational leagues hours can increase. A Regional Commissioner serves a term of 3 years.

The full job description can be found HEREThe basic qualification for the position is that you be a registered volunteer in good standing with the organization. Preferred candidates will have previously served as Regional Board members.

Our Nomination Committee, consisting of current and past Executive Members of the Board, will vet candidates for eligibility and send the candidates applications to the Regional Board to review. The application period will end on January 6, 2025. At the regional boards regularly scheduled Board meeting in January, all Board Members in place at the time will be eligible to vote for the next regional commissioner. Once the election is complete, the Area Director will forward the result to the Section Director and then to the AYSO National Board of Directors for approval.

The current Regional Commissioner's term ends April 2025 so the successful candidate will become the Regional Commissioner Elect immediately after the election.

Other Roles

Davis AYSO is in continued need of help with the back end of things.  Some of it are small tasks, others much involved.

  • Picture Day Coordinator:  1x/year in Aug/September -  just works on organizing the date and liaison with the picture company.
  • Volunteer Coordinator:  Help with organizing volunteers for certain hosted events (Fall Jamboree, Area Tournament, Davis World Cup.)
  • Food Coordinator:   Help with ordering/picking up food for referees or coaches for hosted events.
